1st Team Managers Report 2002/03

We have come to the end of another season, usually I have spoken in the past about the success of the year but unfortunately this year was disappointing. After bringing in the knowledge and experience of Ado Kearns we looked forward to progressing even further. Unfortunately we lost the services of Dermot Judge for personal reasons but with Ado & Paul Montague's assistance we continued to work hard with the players.

We made a number of changes with our shape and asked some players to change the way they played. This was difficult for everyone but we all worked hard to get it right. We lost a few games by the odd goal, which left us with little to work for but the players and management wanted to get things right for next year.

It was late in the season that I made a decision that I feel would be for the benefit of the team & the club. I informed the committee that I would be stepping down as first team manager. I felt that it was time for a change. The players were becoming too familiar with me and they needed a new challenge. It is my intention to stay involved with Parkvale but I feel that the club as a senior team has reached a crossroads. I hope that the committee feel that I have set a certain standard and they want to maintain those standards and their ambitions are high, which I believe they are, and they will do everything in their powers to bring in a manager with credentials that are worthy of the club and the players. The club are at a stage with the experience the committee and players have developed, that with the right appointment they can progress in accordance with their dreams and become one of the most successful senior clubs in the LSL.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Montague & Ado for all their help over the year but especially Paul because he had the hardest job of all, to keep me on track and stopping me from losing it at times. I have worked with Paul for 3 years, which I think without him we would not have achieved the success we had. I must say that it is imperative that both Paul & Ado are not lost and they are kept involved in the future.

I would like to thank all the players and the friendships I have made over the years. I also include those players who may not be involved with the club today. I have always said that football is there to enjoy and I am very passionate about it but I will never fall out or lose a friend because of it. I like to think that, this has never happened and that I have a number of friends across the city all because of my involvement with Parkvale.

Finally I would like to thank the committee for all their support over the years.

But there is one man that I must especially mention. This man is responsible for were I am to day. He has given me his full support over the years and I can definitely say he was always there to pick me up when I was down. His continued support and guidance has developed me not only as a manager of a football team, but I have to say that he has been responsible for how I have developed as a person. Adam Berber's friendship over the years is something that I have treasured and will always treasure. I am unable to put into words the effect he has had on my life and can only hope that he will understand my silence.

So it is farewell but not goodbye. I look forward to the continued success of Parkvale and I hope to be a part of their success in whatever way possible.
