May 1995 was a sad month for those who were associated with Dublin Maccabi F.C. It was the end of an era as Dublin Maccabi founder members of the Amateur League disbanded and from this a new club, ParkVale F.C. was formed.
Adam Berber took charge after successfully running Dublin Maccabi Football section. The first match was in the A.F.L. Division 1 - Sunday on the 03-09-95. While Adam started building and planning the structures that would ensure ParkVale’s future, the first team (and at that time the only team) was being capably managed by Eamon Walsh and Jimmy Ball. The following season saw major changes at ParkVale F.C. with the club running two senior teams - one on Saturday and one on Sunday. A committee was formed with Brian McGuinness, Barry Walsh and Joanna Weinrib joining up with. Boyd Scott and Richard Green were appointed managers of the teams and both teams finished fourth in their respective leagues. Boyd Scott brought in new players and was instrumental in adding a new winning philosophy to the club. For season 1997-98, there was yet more change at ParkVale F.C. both on and off the pitch. Brian McGuinness and Conor McKiernan became managers of the first and second teams. Richard Green replaced Brian McGuinness as chairman of the club and Tom Nolan (Treasurer), Ian Byrne (Secretary) and Adam Berber (Vice-chairman) formed the new committee. On the playing side, both teams performed admirably with the Saturday team gaining promotion. The same season also saw the launch of a schoolgirls team but unfortunately this only lasted the one season.
1998-1999 was a watershed year for ParkVale F.C. Brian McGuinness was joined by both Brian Coghlan and Brian Kelehan who jointly took charge of the Saturday team. A new vigour and energy was seen throughout the club. Training nights, every Tuesday and Thursday on the astro turf in St. Columbus College was always well attended with upwards of 30 players vying for selection. There was an added bonus as both teams gained promotion with the Sunday Xl finishing runners up in Division 1 - Sunday. The hard work and effort being put in by the ‘three Brians” and a stable and supportive committee ensured the success of the season. With both teams promoted to the top divisions of their respective leagues - season 1999-2000 promised to be one of the most memorable yet. Both team management and the committee remained unchanged for this the most memorable of seasons. Changes off the pitch included new sponsors - The Templeogue Inn and midweek training at the V.E.C. grounds every Tuesday and Thursday evening. While many pundits in junior football thought that ParkVale would struggle in the major division, this was not the case. The Saturday Xl finished 4th from bottom of their league and comfortably avoided relegation. In fact, many of their games against the top teams were very close and the team were unfortunate to be hit by injuries throughout the season. The Sunday Xl remained unbeaten in the league until April and eventually finished 3rd. Whilst progress in the F.A.l./Leinster Junior Cups and the Matt O’Leary Cup was limited, ParkVale F.C. surpassed all expectations by reaching the Amateur Cup final. An achievement beyond our dreams at the start of the season. After 5 productive and enjoyable years in the Amateur Football Leagues, ParkVale F.C. joined the Leinster Senior League. September 2000 A junior section catering for under age footballers was established under the guidance of Saul Woolfson (ex Dublin Maccabi and a qualified F.A.l. coach).we entered our first team into the SDFL,we were so badly organised,it wasn’t till our fifth game we realised we were playing at the wrong age level, thankfully the league dropped us back a year and we began again.
The first seed was planted. David Cosgrove Luke McGuinness, Zach Berber, Graham Campbell, Sean Adyecurran, Andrew Gilbert, David Kiernan Niall OMahony, Mark Ryan Robert Styles, Josh Tobin - all these boys and families are still associated with our club and 9 years later we now have 11 junior teams and a busy academy under the guidance of Ray Sissons. We see the results of the boys and girls who have gone through the academy in the last 3 years, with many of the players now competing every week for their respective teams.
The first junior team back in 2000 has become our most successful. The boys now play in the DDSL Under 18 Super Harry Boland League(the top schoolboy league in Dublin) Frank Ryan and Brian Kelehan were the first coaches to be followed by Ian Clarke and Gar Ritchie. Ian is still in charge but with Brian McGuinness coming on board to do the coaching/training it has been very beneficial to the boys.
During the past number of years a number of teams have picked up runners up medals in their respective leagues, but to date we haven’t had too many league champions.
The Guidance and the time that Brian McGuinness,Frank Ryan and Ray Sissons give to our other coaches is much appreciated by all. Hopefully this will continue as we all benefit from their teachings.
While the Juniors were been set up in the year 2000, our Senior Section began their journey in the Leinster Senior League . That man Brian McGuinness again was their leader,Dermot Judge came on board and in our very first year we won the Sunday Div 1 league. We thought this was it,we were on our way to Intermediate football, 10 years later that wasn’t the case, it took us 8 years to get promoted again to Sunday Major.
Brian took a years sabbatical in the season 2007/08,but he made sure the seniors were left in good shape. A new management team was put in place. Nicky Norman, Paul Pender James Tallon and Conor Walls. The first season was non productive , the Sunday team finished mid –table and the Saturday team was relegated. It appeared Nicky needed the season to bed in. There’s no doubt the senior section has never looked more structured as in this season 2008/09. The Sunday team are well placed for promotion, hopefully their good form will continue? While competing well in the league they have reached the semi-final of the Vera-Deane Cup, a terrific achievement, but it’s important to the club that we continue our progress towards intermediate football. Paul Pender retired at the beginning of Season 08/09 due to business opportunities. Conor Walls was replaced by Alan Coughlan and Karl Corcoran .
James Tallon works away every Tuesday and Thursday night training the senior players, numbers are good 25-30 a night, and he is always there Sunday morning planning strategy with ParkVale\'s Seniors Manager Nicky Norman. Nicky has made a quick impact in turning a poor team around into winning ways. There\'s no doubt that the new players Nicky brought to the club in the season 2007/08 are now well bedded and we can see this year the benefit to the club. With Alan and Karl now responsible for 2nd team matters and working with Nicky, they have instilled a sense of pride into the players and the teams they put out every Saturday look well organised and the results on the pitch have shown a marked improvement on previous years.
May 2008 will be a very significant date in ParkVales history. An EGM was called Adam Berber and Eamon McGinn presented to the members .ParkVales Future It was document outlining where the club could go if the members were willing to get behind it. The committee had been working with Rockbrook School for a number of years Planning an agreement where Parkvale would have its own home? After the presentation a vote was taken including the proxys, the Vote was 110 Yes No Zero votes. The members wanted change,so the new journey began and the agreement is in place but not officially signed
2008/09 was a tremendous season on the playing front Sunday Seniors finished runners up in their league and were beaten finalist in the Vera Deane Cup. Saturday Seniors finished fourth in their league and achieved promotion. 16s won the John Giles cup and the SDFL Premier League 12Red won the SDFL DIV 1 League 9Blues won the SDFL DIV 6 League 8Blues were runners up in the SDFL DIV 5 League
20009/10 Season up and running. We now have 13 junior teams and 2 senior teams and Rays Academy. A credit to our hard working committee, coaches ,players and parents. We have 207 Junior Members and 34 Senior Members We say goodbye to Alan Coghlan and Karl Corcoran, who have stepped down from Managing our Saturday Senior Team, but we say hello to Paddy Carr and Paul Murphy who take on challenge of steering the 2nds to back –back promotions. James Tallon will continue as the Seniors coach John Burke has joined the senior management team John will be a great benefit to the club as he has been involved in Dublin junior soccer for many years. Nicky Norman who is in charge of all senior playing matters within the club, has the tough year ahead to ensure we maintain the high standards that he set last year by getting both teams promoted. His objective is for the same to happen again this season. For ParkVale FC to be playing in Intermediate Football would be a terrific achievement. Junior Section goes from strength form strength in regards to the number of teams we are fielding 13 teams this season. Niall O Brien has decided to take a year off,but we look forward to him coming back after his sabbatical. Eugene Mullins has stepped down as the assistant coach of the Under 12 Blues. Gareth Rennicks has joined Declan Whelan in helping with the 9 Reds A big thank you to Brian Kelehan for getting the 8s going, not only does have to deal with this he also has to look after his own team the 11s Due to the success of the 16s last season we decided to move them to the DDSL,where they have began with 2 wins and one defeat The 8 reds 12s and 16s will all play in the Premier leagues this season. A new member to our coaching staff are Shane O Toole and Dean Kennedy will be the new coaches for our 15s this year. Not only is Shane coaching this squad he is running goalkeeping clinics every Monday night up in Rockbrook.
Plenty of turns and twists .Our 17s did us proud as they won their league,a terrific achievement considering it was our first year in the DDSl.Our 13s and 8s were hot on their heels winning their respective leagues. The 11s missed top spot by one point. Our Senior Sunday failed to crossed the line in their first year in Major Sunday ,missing promotion by 3 points,we had high hopes as we had a great start to the season, but once the bad weather kicked in and the xmas break that appeared to go on forever(13 weeks without football) we fell away.Senior Saturdays never got going and we had a fight on our hands not to be relegated.Brian McGuinness stepped in for the last 8 games and steadied the ship.
Deveolpment plans were in full swing and our new clubhouse opened.
2010/11
Many changes during the summer, but all for the good. Our two new pitches were completed and our small sided pitch Is in full use.the 11-a –side pitch is ready but netting behind the goal still has to be installed. We say good-bye to John Patchell,Garreth Rennicks and Dean Kennedy. They will be missed, but the door is always open!
We now have 16 Junior Teams ,2 Senior Teams,1 Special Needs Team and the Academy for 5 and 6 year olds.We Welcome on board.Paul Byrne/Robert Styles (7s),Pat Cryan(11 blues),Paul Whelan(12s),Gary OSullivan (13 Reds),
We Said goodbye to Garreth Rennicks (9Reds) and Dean Kennedy(15s)
And a welcome back to Martin Garvey (11 blues) Ian Clarke (18s)
Ger McCarthy has taken over our 15s and Jimmy McGowan and Bryan Evan have taken over the reigns of our 8 blues.
Paul Whelan has joined Brian Kelehan with the coaching of our Under 12s
Tom Kane who joined the coaching staff at the beginning of the year,to help develop our 16s last season, has decided to stay on.
Tom not only coaches the 17s ,he is the Manager of the Senior Saturday team. And he still finds time to help James with the coaching of our senior sides every Tuesday and Thursday. The club is very fortunate to have Tom on board. He brings years of experience to the club and there is no doubt our teams will be the benifactors of his wisdom and enthusasim
Paula Coghlan and Deirdre Ryan look after our Special Needs Team, which is now up and running. The squad trains every Tuesday night and the plan is to organise games this April and May
A very exciting development has taken place for all our small sided teams. The club in conjunction with Paul Osam has set up a training programme called SDTP Soccer Deveolpment Technique Programme.Paul will help and advise our coaches to ensure the training plan is correctly implemented.
Sunday 17th October was the day when our new 11-A-side pitch had its first competitive game played on it.The honour went to our 17s and they recorded a 4-1 victory.
Our AGM was held on the 21st October 2010 and it was stated that we had achieved our initial goal when setting up the Junior section in 2000,to have a schoolboy/girl team at every age group. Our link up with Paul Osam was beneficial to our coaches and training books were developed, but the follow through was poor, with Paul getting a full time job as training officer with the FAI.The plan is to re-introduce it for season 2011/12.
Our Junior World Cup day was well attended, but what was special about the tournament this tear, was the players from our Special Needs squad particapted.
No trophies this year but our Under 8s,9s and 10 Reds all achieved runners up in their respective leagues. Our 10 Blues were in Runners up in the Major League Cup Final. Our Seniors who had such a promosing start, saw their season end poorly. We did get a day out with Senior Sunday side reaching the Polikoff Cup Final, but we lost to a very strong Ballyouster side 2-0,in fact Ballyouster won our league where we finished a disappointing 5th.Our 2nds were relegated.
We said goodbye to James Tallon at Xmas, who decided to take up a coaching role with St James.James was with the club for 5 years and he will be missed. At the end of the season we said goodbye to Nicky Norman (1st team manager ) who came to the club in Season 2007/2008.Nicky brought a differents tyle of management tot he team, plus introduced a number of new young players,ex Rangers Schoolboys.Nicky brought our club to 2 finals and one promotion that final step to Intermediate football we just kept missing. The seeds are planted and maybe next season will be our year.Thank You Nicky and am sure we will see you at the games in the near future
Other goodbyes and a big thank you to Paul Whelan and Brian Kelehan(Under 12 ) Gary O'Sullivan/Frank Ryan (13 Reds) David O'Toole (11 Reds) Paul Byrne (7s) We Welcome Therese Evans and Connal O'Cofaigh to the commitee.
